How is Destiny now? I just saw a story a few days ago that Bungie is on another apology tour, but I didn't look into it to see what was actually going on. I think The Final Shape is available now through the Playstation Plus subscription service, and I did think about downloading it for about thirty seconds before ultimately deciding it probably wasn't worth it at this point.

Is Destiny 3 ever going to happen? It feels like the thing that must happen for Destiny to really be a going concern moving forward, but I don't know if they're even in a position to make that happen at this point.

Arc Raiders has shown that an extraction shooter can come out and be huge, although who knows how long that tail will be (I'm slowing down in playing it already, though I will continue to check back in on it, I'm sure). What little has filtered out of the most recent Marathon test seems to have been positive, so I guess we'll see.

FWIW, I consider The Final Shape one of the best campaigns within the Destiny franchise. If you're already subscribing, might as well enjoy it. IMO, the fact that it is so good aggravates the mass layoffs post-release so damn much...

With Edge of Fate, we presented a different vision for the future of Destiny 2’s core game. One intended to refocus our releases and player call-to-action on a familiar but deeper pursuit of Power and ascending to higher Tiers of gear across a wider range of activities supporting customizable challenge and commensurate rewards.

Very quickly, the feedback made it clear that this was the wrong path for Destiny.

Even if our execution had been perfect, and we see plainly that it was not, it is clear that grinding Power will never be a substitute for earning a trophy. Climbing though throwaway tiers en-route to the gear you want to build around isn’t aspirational. And the Portal itself surrenders too much of Destiny’s feeling of place and exploration. These lessons, and many others besides them, have been taken to heart by our team over the last three months.

Emphasis mine. It is... just... ...so completely WILD to me, that... decade in, they find a way to re-learn what they already knew. Like, at this point I just... have to chuckle.

Vault capacity and upgrades to ease collection pressure.

We have increased Vault capacity by an additional 300 slots to 1000, and we’re working on more.

In addition, the Vault now has a revamped filtering system to help find what you’re looking for faster.

So yea, more slots is boss, but... the real gem here is the "revamped filtering system". And yet... this was one of my deepest rants. This is a loot game, and ONLY NOW have the even touched this since... I think LAUNCH for Destiny 2?! Or close to it? And, hey... gift horse in the mouth, right? But, man alive... decade in that in-game system should be putting DIM to shame! Or at least comparable.

Wait... are youtube links broken? Nobody told me.

Okay, it looks like about a month ago, YouTube started cracking down on embeds without an explicit Referrer-Policy. I've added the suggested value and YT links (both simple and full) seem to work.

Just looked back through Insane's posts, and there are a couple of still-broken links. That's because they're shorts, not YouTube vids (the URL is different, and the format didn't exist when the forum code was written). I'll add it to the list of things I can add at some point!

How people can fill a 1000 slot vault blows my mind. I had basically used the exact same weapons and armor for all of Destiny 2. I never used my vault. Maybe 2 pages worth of gear.

I saw a streamer scroll through their vault and there was a full page of the exact same piece of equipment!! Why? Y'all are hoarders.

Guilty! Yet I rarely have dupes. I don't have a very good horse sense about what is valuable. That, combined with Bungie changing the meta all the time and not wanting to get rid of raid armor makes things tight. Did I mention that I'm sentimental? The mark of a hoarder, for sure.

Streamers are a whole 'nother thing. For me, the whole game was about permutations. It's a recipes book, and it was fun finding new tastes of play. Problem was, you had to RNG your way into those options... so... what do you do? Classic gamers dilemma; you keep rare items in-case you might need them later, which often leads to never actually using the darn thing.

So... that's how.

I never played that game of trying to get god roll gear. I used the weapons that suited by playstyle and were fun to use. From almost day 1, I had an Arc Last Dance sidearm with Dragonfly (or whatever the perk was called at the time) and it was beautiful to destroy things with. Paired with my Young Ahamkara Spine armor that reloaded my weapons on melee. Plus the arc perk of getting that lightning bolt instant kill on melee. It was so much fun to run into the middle of a huge group and make everything explode. I miss it.

From almost day 1, I had an Arc Last Dance sidearm with Dragonfly (or whatever the perk was called at the time) and it was beautiful to destroy things with. Paired with my Young Ahamkara Spine armor that reloaded my weapons on melee. Plus the arc perk of getting that lightning bolt instant kill on melee. It was so much fun to run into the middle of a huge group and make everything explode. I miss it.

I still maintain this was the correct way to play the game.

When I chased the meta?
Enjoyment diminished.

When I played as a natural extension of my inclinations and was rewarded for it?
Bliss.

Obviously there is a little play between these two points on the spectrum, but getting pushed towards the meta never settled well.

I never did get rid of my "The Devil You Know" from D1. Even after it was meta'ed into oblivion. I think I got 50ish kills in one match with it once.

Metaphors aside... when I managed to lone wolf the Campaign for Final Shape, I was able to do it because I had options. It was fun! And then I helped everyone else beat the last level, since y'all couldn't do it. ;D :P

Then again... I'm a Warlock, finding the right words to cast is my vibe anyhow.

Just to have fun with your metaphor, I came for the meat and potatoes. But the chef tended to focus more on the garnish. So I stopped coming to said buffet.
