Is anyone still playing this game? (Destiny)

by cheapLEY @, Friday, December 19, 2025, 21:53 (46 days ago)

I played through the Lightfall and Final Shape campaigns over the last week, since I had access to them through PS+.

Lightfall mostly kinda sucked, though the Calus fight at the end was fun. I don't like Neomuna as a location--it just kinda sucks to get around, and I don't like Strand enough as a set of abilities to want to use it to have easy access to the grapple.

The Final Shape has been cool so far, though. The campaign was fun! The post campaign patrol stuff actually seems pretty neat, but it sucks because I have not seen a single other person in the patrol zone. I get that it's old now and a new expansion dropped not long ago, but that never really mattered in the past. Did the player base drop off that much?

Also, how in the hell do you unlock the rest of the Prismatic aspects and fragments? There's no guidance at all in the game anywhere, no indication of what to do. I've done bits of some of the post campaign quests thinking maybe they'd be rewards there, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Prismatic is fun as hell, although I still find it difficult to give up just a straight Solar Titan with Wormgod Caress, just punching everything to death standing in healing sunspots.

I'm not sure how much I'll really play going forward, but it was cool to see The Final Shape, even if the campaign isn't really the end of the story.

I thought that the Final Shape was great. For better or for worse, the Pale Heart is not a public space, just so you know. Not playing as much these days, but the first few missions of the new expansion were pretty fun.

I did not realize that. Not sure how to feel about it, honestly. I guess it's sort of neat in a way, but I kinda miss just seeing people running around.

Is the actual "end" something I'm going to be able to see? Like, does doing all the stuff on the Pale Heart open up the final mission, or is it all just building to the raid that I might not be able to do?

Not playing as much these days, but the first few missions of the new expansion were pretty fun.

I did the first mission just because it was one of the things necessary to increasing my Guardian Rank, and I needed to be at least level 3 to be able to buy the rest of my class fragments and stuff from Ikora.

When I heard about it, I just thought the idea of doing a Star Wars crossover was dumb. Like, Destiny is strong enough on its own to not need Star Wars bullshit put in it (even though I freaking love Star Wars), but it actually seems like it was done pretty well from what little I've seen. Cabal Stormtroopers was certainly a choice, and it actually turned out pretty freaking cool. Seeing a Cabal ship done up in the Imperial style actually worked really well, and that armor on them looks awesome.

Both of this year's expansions are on sale for like $45 as a bundle on PS+ right now, and it's sort of tempting.

There's an event where you go up against the witness, and it is public. It's kind of like a raid boss fight with lots of players. It's unlike anything else in Destiny.

To elaborate on what Kermit said, the game shipped and the initial story ended in the Pale Heart. The idea was for you to run around building power for the the raid. Once the raid was cleared by the first team a final activity called Excision was opened up for all. I believe you can access it from orbit or from the Pale Heart. This activity is the end of the game. The raid opened up the opportunity for everyone to have a final moment. I personally think it is best experienced with friends, but it’s not necessary. If you’d like a fireteam, I’d be willing to jump in and join you.

Overall... seems so.

Is anyone here? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I of course, as ever so mentioned dropped off after Final Shape and all said, it was a fantastic call for me.

All said though, I would gladly jump on just to have a chance to fill things in and play alongside ya.

I still haven't bothered to do this, it seems to require quite a bit of grinding in the Pale Heart and I had already done a bunch of that stuff before realizing there was some specific stuff to do to get the fragments. As always with Destiny, the answer to this question is just, look it up before you waste a bunch of time figuring it out.

I am still playing occasionally, but very occasionally. I did finish the Edge of Fate campaign, but spread out over several months. Kermit and I just did a little bit of the "new" raid, and that was a blast. I've done a bit of the Renegades campaign, which is fun, and I hope to finish it over the holiday break. The extra vault slots have really helped out with being able to play effectively without having to do some serious cleaning, which would be painful especially now that I'm much more disconnected from what is "good" or not. I haven't bothered with The Portal - I don't see what it would get me, the content I care about (raids and campaign) doesn't require leveling so why would I level to be able to do harder versions of what I'm playing to level?

I do miss playing PvP a bit, but I'm not sure how much fun it even is now with the power creep of abilities.

Thanks, I'll definitely do that then. It's a shame they're still making that so annoying.

I've done a bit of the Renegades campaign, which is fun, and I hope to finish it over the holiday break.

So I finished the campaign for Renegades today and I really liked it. It was fun to play through, and for like the first time ever in Destiny there's some vehicle segments that don't suck (sorry, the Drake is the least fun vehicle I've ever used in a video game). I also thought the story was pretty decent. I'll have to go back and do Edge of Fate, I guess, to get the context of what's going on with the Nine, but they're already more interesting than the Witness ever was.

The new activity is also tons of fun. It's still the typical Destiny encounter design (put the thing in the basket, stand in the circle to fill up a meter, etc.), but if you play on Master or higher difficulty you can be invaded by other players and it's really fun on both sides of that equation.

I haven't bothered with The Portal - I don't see what it would get me, the content I care about (raids and campaign) doesn't require leveling so why would I level to be able to do harder versions of what I'm playing to level?

I don't quite understand how the scoring stuff works, but maybe it's a decent way to get high tier armor?

Okay Sparrow sections excepted. I meant combat vehicles, I suppose.

Man, that is an absolutely damning thing to say about any game, woah.

Dawg, it is what it is. Destiny has been like that for its entire 10+ year history.
