Of course, I'm now realizing that you're playing on different hardware. That,plus personal preference means YMMV I guess. But in general, sensitivity a bit lower than default and linearity a bit higher seems to be the way to go if the defaults feel twitchy.

Yeah, honestly, I'm not sure why I bought it on the PS4, other than it's the console I was using when I realized it was out. I do think I would enjoy it more with the Xbox controller. The PS4 one isn't bad, but the triggers have way less pull until stop than the Xbox One, so I feel like my throttle and brake inputs are really extreme.

I wanted to like it, but I tried for days to fix the handling and it just wasn't happening - there is no combination of settings that can save it, as far as I could tell. Even out of the box, Dirt Rally feels much better.

Heh--I downloaded that demo, too. I did one race and turned it off.

Heh. Unfortunately I found the steering settings after I'd done that one and it'll be a bit before I'm buying my own 037, but so far every other car I have feels excellent. I'm flying through the courses compared to what I was doing before.

So far the only cars I own are the Renault Alpine A110, Ford Escort MkII, and now the Renault Clio for rally cross. I love the first two, but hate the Clio. Mainly I think I just strongly dislike FWD cars. I did alright with it--I won my first rally cross championship, but I just do no like driving it. But the AWD cars cost about twice what I have right now. I'm thinking the next one I buy and try my hand at will be the Audi Quattro Hill Climb car.

I tried my hand at the Daily yesterday, and . . . well, it wasn't good. The Lancia 037 is absolutely bonkers to drive. Part of that was driving an insane Group B car, but I think you may be on to something with the steering. I couldn't pull of a smooth slide to save my life--I kept way overcorrecting. Some steering sensitivity adjustments will probably help.

Yeah, ditto. I finished my first Championship in 3rd, and felt totally okay with that. It's very, very easy to get overconfident in this game. I'll be scooting along, setting the pace a good 15 seconds ahead of the competition. One mistake later, I'm rumbling in the to the finish line a 50 seconds (or more!) behind.

I drove the Escort MKII during the preview races you can do while the game is installing, and even that car was unruly and extremely tail happy. I can't wait, but this is the only racing game I've ever played where I feel like starting with low end cars has actually been really beneficial.

I've only managed one first place finish so far in Dirt Rally, and am currently sitting in a very contentious 3rd in the Championship with one event left. And being in third actually feels good--it's refreshing to not just basically automatically win every race.

I really don't think I've ever played a better racing game. The controls are just so perfect (in the only car I've used, anway--the Renault Alpine). Forza 6 is close, but for whatever reason, Forza has always felt just slightly floaty to me. Dirt Rally feels grounded in a way that Forza doesn't, somehow.

Probably because off all the bumpiness! Personally I think Forza feels great, but Dirt certainly has more opportunities to make you aware of the road surface.

There's probably some truth in that. I just feel like some of the Forza cars don't have as much weight as they should or something. Forza is still amazing!

The Renault Alpine is amazing. I know the Mini's supposed to be everyone's favorite, but I really like driving the Renault more. It gets around hairpins much easier. Haven't gotten a Lancia Fulvia yet, but I'm really looking forward to it. I think it'll be a good middle ground between the other two, and Fulvias sound fantastic.

I absolutely hated the Mini. FWD sucks and the Mini under steers like crazy. Down shifting to 2nd, mashing the throttle, and kicking the rear end out with the Renault has saved my ass so many times, and it feels satisfying in a way not many other racing games have matched.

The 70's cars are a lot twitchier. I found the Stratos really difficult to drive until I fiddled with the differential. That car's really squirrely in Forza, too.

I know I said it already, but I'm genuinely afraid of moving up. The Delta S4 is my favorite racing car ever, but after feeling what the 70's cars are like, I'm kinda nervous. Having AWD (which none of the 70's machines have) will help stabilize things, but it's still got double the power of anything else I've driven so far, and things are already happening too fast. :)

Yeah, same. In any new Forza I am confident and immediately crank the AI difficulty and turn off all assist and nearly always finish first.

Wales is great. I'm not sure which stage it is exactly, but there's one where you spend what feels like half the course going through tight hairpins in a river valley, cutting back and forth through streams.

Monte Carlo's really a bitch at times, just because you can fall off the map if you go off course. Great environment, though.

Me too. I guess the nice thing about this game in that regard is that we can still compare times manually and be just as well off.

Well, that was 16 years ago, and they put up gates and cameras the year after we stopped. There's plenty of other dirt roads to race on, but that loop had some nice challenging corners. I owned the corners after the back straight stretch. I still remember the line I ran through those.

I didn't eat the fence. I slid right up to it after I got airborne off the second bridge. My fence dodging skills were refined from my youth. It did break both of my mufflers loose when I landed.

It's too bad I ran off there because that was going to be a record lap time. I usually backed off but I was doing at least 65 when I caught air off the bridge.
