make it to the jumping puzzle, but don't jump down

Or can you just do templar normally, then have most of the party leave, and then rejoin?

go into the gorgon checkpoint solo. If you're up for solo'ing the templar, more power to you! ;)

Go back to the gorgon maze, it will be blocked. stand right next to the wall
invite your friends
they will join inside the maze
leave the fireteam and come back so you are inside
enjoy killing gorgons with the darkness zone disabled.
