Nice! (reply)

That used to happen to me.

Reach cured me of that. It’s still the best special edition of a video game I’ve ever bought. But it’s all just packed away in that big ass box sitting in the closet.

At the end of the day I just don’t need more shit sitting around. I’d honestly love if they made some of that lore stuff available digitally.

Art books are the only thing I can really justify any more.

Love the art books, too. Just got Grimoire, Volume 2. I like what Bungie is doing with extra-game merchandise. I'm learning to resist t-shirts, finally.

I don't follow many franchises other than Bungie's, so it still feels like a bargain to me when I measure fun per dollar. Although I did pony up for a special edition of The Last of Us, Part !!, that is an extremely rare exception.

Yeah, I've felt like their other merch has been so high quality that I'd rather get the specific things, like the anthologies, that I would have wanted if they were in a collector's edition.

Confession time: I bought the collector's edition for Shadowkeep (no surprise, I don't think I've missed a Bungie special edition since Halo 2).

I'm not trying to convince anyone that it's worth what it cost. This is not a review--I've given it only a cursory inspection, honestly. I've not even retrieved the secret note. I was relieved that it did not contain a statue, because I don't really need one. What it does have is solid, and I mean that literally. There's lots of metal. I don't think there is anything plastic. The crytoglyph has real heft. I'm sure you could kill a thrall with it.

The metal box that contains most of the other goodies is also solid, and really feels like something you'd find in the lunar lander. Secured with twine tied in a bow, it really feels like you've found an artifact when you're opening it. I won't detail all the contents, but at first glance, the journal approaches Halsey's journal quality, which is high praise.

Anyway, I'm glad I got it. The items feel less like replicas of stuff in-universe, and more like the real thing.

I picked up the Destiny Collector's Edition (the one with the messenger bag) for $35 when someone put it on sale a few years in. Maybe I can do the same with this one. :)

Yeah, when it comes to these things the FOMO monster gets me every time.
