I remember seeing these in a speculation thread from months ago. Either it was good speculation or it's been repeated enough for Kokatu to report it as a leak.

This is probably true, but some fella leaked the basics on the subreddit earlier, then proved it to the mods. In the comments, some dude said "I hope the void hunter has a bow and arrow." or something like that.

Because of this, I wonder how much of this is Kotaku building on that stuff with previous rumours.

It is about posting to the actual leaked material (like for example if you're a tester for Bungie, or stealing promotional material, etc). This should be fine since it's Kotaku talking about a leak.
